Wise Women Discuss—Plot!

The 36 Tragic Situations

Though women have been starved of creative opportunities over the centuries of patriarchal bullying, they have proved in one important field that they are not creatively inferior to men—in writing. Adelphiasophists are keen that all people should be creative and that their efforts should be appreciated. If you have been intending to start that novel or screenplay but felt short of ideas, here is the Wise Women's synopsis of plot to give you a few ideas. May the Goddess inspire you. 12. Obtaining

Diplomacy and eloquence are the characteristics here. An end is to be attained or an object gained; all interest might be at stake; obstacles might have to be removed; intermediaries or disguises might have to be used; anger might have to be transforemed to benevolence; the despoiler put in the place of the despoiled; surprises and counter surprises might be sprung; submissive participants might have to assert themselves. The dialectic contest of reason or passion, subtle and persuasive or forceful and violent yields fine dramatic situations. Temptation has been little used in the theatre but here can be introduced. The solicitor might have to take the role of tempter to charm, bewilder and beguile the adversary into yielding his secret.
